Africa Mine GT Fuel-Gas Dewpoint
Your mine island bus depends on clean, dry fuel gas. When dewpoint climbs and condensate slips past the heaters, you risk blade damage, flame instability and a hard trip that stops the mill. When heaters run too hot for too long, you waste fuel and shorten coil life for no gain.
You cannot reclaim lost ounces after a wet-gas trip. If your dewpoint limits were copied from a commissioning sheet years ago, you are carrying outage risk every cold night and every wet-season swing.
USP&E Helps You Hold Mine Fuel-Gas Dewpoint Limits
We know how hard it is to keep firm power on a remote mine when gas quality swings with weather and supplier batches. USP&E has delivered 150+ power projects in 45+ countries, with 25,000 MW contracted since 2002, and our 400+ engineers and project managers set dewpoint targets, heater stages and condensate drains on mine power stations where altitude, dust and long running hours test every fuel skid. We work under ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 certified systems with FCPA and OFAC controls. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor, not a broker.
Sample Dewpoint Where the Turbine Actually Sees Gas
Sample at the skid inlet and after every heater stage, not only at the pipeline custody point. Many mine stations find the custody meter looks dry while the turbine inlet still carries fog after a long uninsulated run.
Your gas turbine generators need a clear margin above the coldest night and the wettest supplier batch you expect. Record dewpoint with load, ambient and heater outlet temperature so you know what normal looks like on your island, not on a brochure.
Repeat the campaign in the wet season and the dry season. Condensate behaviour changes with both, and your alarms should reflect the conditions your plant actually sees.
Set Heater Targets and Drain Routines Your Shift Can Run
Set heater outlet targets with a documented margin, then write a drain routine that your night shift can finish without calling the day crew. Sticky drains and forgotten knockouts are how condensate reaches hot-section metal.
Use two levels of alarm: one that tells operators to raise heat or open a drain, and one that protects the machine when dewpoint is already unsafe. Keep both inside the OEM envelope, and log every bypass with a time limit.
Plan Cover and Hand Dewpoint Rules into O&M
Heater coil work and knockout cleaning take fuel paths offline, so plan cover before you need it. A remanufactured GE Frame 6B or verified used/new gas turbines can carry critical load, and natural gas engines/stations can hold auxiliaries while the work finishes.
Hand dewpoint limits, heater setpoints and drain cards into O&M as one controlled document. Tie each alarm to a CMMS work order so nothing depends on memory.
If your company also runs compute or campus load elsewhere, the same discipline carries over. AI gas turbines, hyperscale generators and gas turbines for compute need the same rigour, and later blocks such as the New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA can join a spine run by one hyperscale EPC/O&M team. Your mine spine stays ready for that growth without rewriting the fuel rules twice.

HowTo: Control Mine Fuel-Gas Dewpoint
Your 3-step plan: 1. Share dewpoint trends, heater setpoints and island-bus load under NDA. 2. Receive a sampling plan, heater targets and a cover plan. 3. Apply the limits, then run them under accountable O&M.
- Sample fuel-gas dewpoint at the skid inlet and after every heater stage on the mine island bus.
- Set heater outlet targets with margin above the coldest night and highest gas moisture you expect.
- Trend differential pressure and condensate drains through wet and dry seasons.
- Hold a remanufactured GE Frame 6B or used/new gas turbines as cover during heater or knockout work.
- Leave pad space for later blocks such as the new FX-45 and New USP&E FX-45 45MW Modular Gas Turbine for the Hyperscale Data Center sector in the USA.
- Hand dewpoint limits and heater setpoints into O&M with clear trip and alarm actions.

FAQ: Africa Mine GT Fuel-Gas Dewpoint
Why does fuel-gas dewpoint matter on a mine turbine?
USP&E sees wet fuel gas tip mines into flameouts, hot-section damage and sudden trips that stop the mill. Condensate after heaters is often worse than pipeline readings suggest. Your dewpoint margin must cover the coldest night and the wettest batch you actually receive.
Where should you sample fuel-gas dewpoint?
USP&E samples at the skid inlet and after every heater stage, not only at custody transfer. Long uninsulated runs and failed drains change what the turbine sees. Without those points you are guessing, and a guessed limit either wastes heat or lets water through.
How do you set heater alarms without nuisance trips?
USP&E uses two levels: an operator action band and a protective trip band inside the OEM envelope. Your crew gets a drain and heat-raise card for the first band, and a hard stop for the second. Every bypass is logged, time-limited and reviewed by the shift lead.
What cover should a mine plan during heater work?
USP&E plans a remanufactured GE Frame 6B or verified used/new gas turbines for critical load, with natural gas engines/stations for camp and auxiliaries. You decide the cover before the fuel train opens, so the repair window does not become a production loss.
Where are USP&E’s offices that support this work?
USP&E anchors mine dewpoint work in Johannesburg and Cape Town, where fuel-gas and reliability engineers sit close to your site. London structures contracts and finance, Colorado Springs and Knoxville reach US equipment supply, and Wuxi supports China supply chain and manufacturing. Every office works from the same project file.
Has USP&E delivered power projects like this before?
USP&E supplied 28 Cummins KTA50 containerised diesel gensets, 1,275 kVA each, for Perseus Mining’s Nyanzaga Gold Project in Tanzania. Public case studies also cover Barrick, Resolute and Kinross, where accountable EPC and O&M kept mine production power online. You can read each case study and judge the evidence yourself.
Is USP&E a broker for this equipment?
USP&E is not a broker. USP&E is a full-service EPC and O&M contractor that engineers, supplies, builds, commissions and operates power plants with its own engineers and project managers, so the team that sets your dewpoint limits stays accountable when the station runs. You deal with one accountable team from first review to O&M.
How fast can USP&E respond on this topic?
USP&E can start reviewing your dewpoint logs, heater setpoints and drain records as soon as you share them under NDA. Engineers flag wet points and weak drains first, then issue the full control plan, with timing set by data quality and site access.
Keep Wet Fuel Gas Away From Your Mine Turbines
Get dewpoint control right and your turbines stay online through wet nights and supplier swings. Get it wrong and the first sign is a flameout or hot-section hit at full load. USP&E will help you sample, heat and drain with confidence.
