New Gas Turbines Procurement in Africa

Buying a new gas turbine is not a brochure request. An OEM-agnostic way to specify, compare and buy for African duty.

A turbine purchase locks in your fuel, maintenance and performance for decades. Start from your duty and site, not from a logo, and make sure the turbine arrives with a plan to install and run it.

Screen for African duty

  • Site ambient temperature, altitude and dust.
  • Fuel: gas quality and pressure, plus any liquid backup.
  • Grid frequency and code, and island operation.
  • Service network and spares availability in your region.
  • Delivery time against your COD.

USP&E is OEM-agnostic. We compare GE, Siemens, Solar and other families on how they perform and can be serviced at your site.

New, surplus or both?

New OEM orders can take years. Verified surplus or remanufactured units from USP&E inventory can deliver power much sooner. Many owners combine both: available units for the first phase and new turbines for growth. Read used and new gas turbines for Africa.

Procurement inside EPC accountability

A turbine bought separately from the plant design creates interface risk. When procurement sits inside the EPC contract, the turbine, balance of plant, controls and commissioning are engineered together. After COD, USP&E O&M runs the plant with the same team.

The documentation pack your board should demand

  1. Ownership and title records.
  2. Operating hours, starts and maintenance history.
  3. Inspection and test reports.
  4. Performance data at your site conditions.
  5. Shipping, preservation and installation plans.

Two critical paths: gas and iron

The turbine schedule and the gas schedule must meet on the same date. Plan both together, with named owners, so the machine is never waiting on fuel or the fuel on the machine.

Plan your growth phase with FX-45

If your load will grow in phases, plan the later blocks now. FX-45 is USP&E’s new modular gas turbine, built for hyperscale and industrial growth: 45 MW in open cycle and 108 MW in a 2×1 combined-cycle block, configurable for 50 Hz or 60 Hz, with capacity slots from 2028.

Common questions

How should we start a turbine procurement?

Define your load, fuel, site and grid requirements first. A USP&E engineer can then shortlist suitable new and available units.

New or surplus: which is better?

It depends on your schedule and budget. Surplus units deliver sooner; new units offer full OEM warranty and latest designs. Many projects use both.

Can USP&E inspect equipment?

Yes. Inspections are welcomed, and full records are provided for verified inventory.
